Brief Overview of Fishery Department

    The present office of Sub Divisional Fishery Development Officer, South Salmara was established in the year 1983. It is running in a rented house located in Kharuabandha, at a distance of 1 Km from the District Headquarter. It is a fully fledged establishment controlled by District Fishery Development Officer, Dhubri. All the financial activities except salary are handled by the District Fishery Development Officer, Dhubri.
    Fishery Department is one of the very important and major departments in Assam. It plays a very important role to grow economy of the state. Now a day’s culture of fishes and fisheries activities is more popular among the farmers of the state. Also fishery is more profitable than any other farming.
    Fishery Department plays a key role in the increase of fisheries production as well as optimum utilization of the water resources. To aware the people about new technologies and about their benefits the Department organizes several training/ awareness programmes for the welfare of fish farmers. Moreover the Departmental officer implements various schemes which are allotted by the State and Central Govt. from time to time to provide extension services to the fish farmers, fishermen and fishery entrepreneurs. Fishery Department also takes initiative to implement the Fisheries Act& Rules and also aware the people to protect the fish during Ban period.
